Towel Gather

Professional Rationale
An excellent exercise to help to strengthen and stabilize the foot, particularly in the case of pes planus and excessive or prolonged pronators.

Client Rationale
This is an exercise to help you strengthen the muscles that are in your foot (intrinsics). These muscles help to control the small movements of your feet and help with balance (proprioception). The towel doesn't necessarily have to be gathered, it is the grasping motion that strengthens the intrinsics.

Instructions
  • Sit in a chair on a non-carpeted floor with a towel under your foot.
  • Gather towel under your foot with a grasping motion of your toes.
  • You can progress by adding a weight at the end of the towel.
  • Do not move at the knee or the hip.
