Tib Posterior Tibialis Arch Pick-Ups
Professional Rationale
A neuromuscular strengthening exercise for the Tibialis Posterior in the deceleration to foot flat phase of gait. Patients usually fatigue quickly, and may experience cramping in the feet.
Client Rationale
This is a specific exercise to help to strengthen your Tibialis Posterior muscles. This is a smaller, stabilizing muscle that is found on the inside of your calf. It attaches on the foot and controls the speed at which your foot hits the floor completely, or the speed at which your foot pronates. If you have flatter feet, or foot that pronates excessively or for too long, then this muscle can get very overloaded and weak, resulting in Shin Splints.
Instructions
- Sit in a chair and squeeze a towel roll between your knees.
- 'Pick up' your arches, keeping your toes and heels on the ground, especially your big toe.
- Do not lift your toes off the floor.
- Do not turn feel so that soles are facing one another.
- Do not allow knees to come apart.
