Thoracic Extension over Chair

You can educate the patient to mobilize at a specific segment, using the chair back to block at a specific segment, or use it to globally mobilize the thoracic spine. This can help to improve the benefit of mobilization or muscle energy techniques and is a nice home program adjunct.
This is a joint stretch, that helps your move the joints in your thoracic spine. Sometimes you may use it for one specific segment of your spine, or you may use it as a global stretch.
- Sit with good posture.
- Interlock fingers behind your head or rest your arms on a pillow in your lap.
- Lean backwards over top of chair.
- Do not overextend or extend to the point of pain.
