Tennis Elbow Stretch
Professional Rationale
A more specific extensor mass and common extensor tendon stretch than the usual one with the elbow extended.
Client Rationale
This is a common stretch used to stretch the extensor mass, and more specifically the common extensor tendon at the lateral epicondyle of the elbow. Tennis elbow, or lateral epicondylitis is a common overuse problem on the outside of the elbow. All of the extensors of the wrist and the fingers live on top of the forearm, they all join to form one tendon, called the common extensor tendon. With chronic overuse with gripping, keying, or lifting, the tendon can start to degenerate, creating pain with any gripping activity. This stretch helps to break up scar tissue throughout this tendon and help improve blood flow.
Instructions
- Bend your arm at the elbow and turn palm outwards.
- Keep arm tucked into your chest.
- Push down on your hand, creating a stretch on top of the forearm.
- Do not stretch to the point of pain.
