Tandem Stance
Professional Rationale
Good exercise to improve balance, especially in the geriatric population. It is best to observe the patient doing this in a supervised environment initially so that they do not challenge themselves too much independently and risk a fall. This exercise engages all lower extremity muscles in their stabilizing function, but particularly the adductors.
Client Rationale
This is an exercise that will help you improve your balance. It turns on all the muscles in your legs and in your trunk to keep you upright as you decrease your base of support.
Instructions
- Stand with one foot in front of the other, heel touching toe.
- Hold on for balance only if needed.
- Do not fall over.
