Seated Quad Sets

Professional Rationale
This is a basic isometric exercise that helps to engage the quadriceps at a baseline level. It is particularly useful in the early post-operative phases to wake up the quadriceps. It is often helpful to have the patient squeeze their fists between their knees to avoid having the knees come apart.

Client Rationale
This exercise is to help to strengthen the quadriceps muscle - a group of 4 muscles that help to control your knee joint in standing, to stop you from buckling. This is an isometric exercise which means your fire the muscle without moving the knee.

  • Tighten the muscle on top of your thighs.
  • Do not let your buttock or back of thigh come off the chair.
