Seated Anterior Cervical Strengthening Against Wall
Professional Rationale
A neuromuscular re-education exercise for the cervical stabilizers. Can also be helpful when the CT junction is hypomobile as it helps to engage the lower cervical segments.
Client Rationale
The deep stabilizers of the neck often become weak and inhibited with postural muscle imbalances and injury. The muscles at the base of the skull become tight and the muscles on the front of the neck become inhibited. This helps to reverse that poor neuromuscular pattern.
Instructions
- Keep shoulders relaxed.
- Slide the back of the head upwards slightly.
- Return to start position.
- Sit in a chair with good posture with back of head resting against the wall.
- Do not allow increased tension in your neck.
- Do not clench your jaw.
