A closed chained, proprioceptive exercise imperative to any stabilization program. Patient must be able to control and stabilize the scapula throughout the entire exercise.
Client Rationale
This exercise is a strengthening exercise that helps the rotator cuff and the shoulder blade stabilizers to communicate with one another, stabilizing the shoulder joint complex.
Instructions
- Have arms at shoulder level and feet and hands shoulder width apart.
- Perform a push-up on a counter/table, keep elbows close to your body.
- Keep abs tight and trunk straight.
- Push all the way up and through, into the "Plus" position.
- Don't shrug your shoulders.
- Don't let hips or spine flex.
