Pulleys - Shoulder

Professional Rationale
Active Assisted ROM for an acutely painful shoulder, most often due to surgery, post traumatic dislocation, or conservative management of a massive rotator cuff tear. This is more passive than using the opposite arm. Pulleys should not be used with patients who present with impingement as this puts the shoulder into an impingement position.

Client Rationale
This exercise is to help you get your shoulder range of motion back without having to use the muscles that are either painful, healing, or both.

Instructions
  • Stand or sit.
  • Grab the pulley handles with each hand.
  • Use your unaffected arm to help raise your affected arm.
  • Keep your affected arm relaxed during the entire exercise.
  • Do not move quickly.
