Proprioception
Professional Rationale
A baseline proprioceptive exercise staple, that patients should start once they are able to fully weightbear.
Client Rationale
This is a balance exercise. All the muscles in your legs need to communicate with one another to keep you upright especially on uneven surfaces. Injury, pain, and surgery all compromise your balance and your muscles' ability to communicate with each other. This helps to regain your balance, or what we call, proprioception.
Instructions
- Stand on one leg.
- Touch down with your toe if you begin to lose balance.
- This should be challenging.
- If this exercise becomes easy, close your eyes.
- Do not lock your stance leg.
