Very specific posterior capsule stretch for those patients with specific or gross capsular tightness. Appropriate for adhesive capsulitis, overhead athletes, and any patient presenting with selective posterior capsule tightness common with chronic impingements.
Client Rationale
This exercise is to stretch the capsule or the sleeve around your shoulder joint. You must stay 'locked' in position so that the shoulder blade doesn't move. You are using the the head of arm bone (humerus) to stretch out the stretchy sleeve.
Instructions
- Lie on your affected side.
- Start with upper arm out to 90 degrees.
- Elbow must be bent to 90 degrees.
- Push down on your forearm with your opposite hand.
- Do not allow elbow to straighten.
- Do not roll onto your back, stay on top of your shoulder.
