Hammer Curl
Professional Rationale
Well known prime mover exercise to strengthen the brachioradialis.
Client Rationale
This is a strengthening exercise for your brachioradialis muscle. This is a muscle that allows you to bend at the elbow when your forearm is neither pronated (palm down) or supinated (palm up). The brachioradialis muscle is often called the 'drinking muscle' since it is the muscle that allows you to bring a cup or glass to your mouth - it is a prime mover not a thinker (stabilizer). Typically you will use a weight with this exercise.
Instructions
- Start with arm straight and by your side with thumb pointing forward.
- Bend up at elbow, contracting the biceps muscle.
- Return in a slow and controlled manner.
- Keep abs tight.
- Do not pull the arm up rapidly.
- Move only at the elbow, do not move your shoulder.
