Gravity Assisted Elbow Extension
Professional Rationale
A good home exercise for those who are early in the rehab phase and getting their range back, or have an extension deficit (in which case this helps maximize the benefit of in clinic mobilisation and/or passive stretching).
Client Rationale
This is a gravity assisted exercise for your elbow. Typically you will use this exercise if you have sustained a traumatic injury, you are healing from surgery, or if your elbow has been immobilized for a period of time. If you do not get your range of motion back during a certain period of time, there can be a permanent loss of range of motion, particularly with extension (or straightening of the elbow).
Instructions
- Position a towel roll under your upper arm.
- Keep your affected arm relaxed and let gravity help straighten your elbow.
- Don't lift your affected arm on it's own.
- Do not move quickly.
