This is a basic strengthening exercise using exercise band that helps to engage the hamstrings and gluteus. It is a great exercise for any patient with hamstring and glut weakness including post knee and hip arthroplasty, in addition to working on core strength.
Client Rationale
This exercise is to help to strengthen the hamstring and gluteus muscles. These muscles extend your hip, and functionally stabilize your pelvis and hips.
Instructions
- Fix theraband in front of you and loop opposite end around your ankle.
- Hold onto chair for balance.
- Keep knee straight.
- Lift leg straight back about 20 degrees.
- Return slowly.
- Keep abs tight.
- Do not allow low back to extend.
- Do not lift leg too high.
- Do not lean forward at the waist.
- Do not sway.
