Professional Rationale
This is a higher level exercise to help promote functional hip strength as well as work on proprioception. Allow the patient to look at his/her feet initially if they are having a difficult time with foot placement. They can then progress to looking forward.
Client Rationale
This is an exercise to help you strengthen your gluteus muscles and your hip abductors. It also helps to improve your balance and when done correctly, helps all of your muscles to communicate in the correct way.
Instructions
- Line 3-6 cones up about 30cm apart.
- Side step up and over the cones by lifting your leg up at the hip.
- Make sure you lift your foot up and over the cone.
- Keeps hips level.
- Lead with each leg.
- Do not bring your foot behind the cones.
- Do not turn around to return, make sure you lead with each leg.
