Codmans/Pendular Exercises

Professional Rationale
Pain relieving exercises to be used when taking a break from AAROM, in between cuff strengthening, in the first few post-op days, and throughout the rehab process.

Client Rationale
This exercise is to help 'warm-up' your shoulder and to be used whenever your shoulder is painful. You can let the arm swing in circles, front to back, or side-to-side. You can use these as much or as little as you need them. If you become fatigued with your exercises, give the shoulder a rest by using these exercises.

Instructions
  • Keep arm completely relaxed.
  • Move your arm front to back/side to side/circles using momentum.
  • Pendular motion.
  • Do not actively move your shoulder.
  • You should not experience any pain.
