Cervical Eye Exercises - Ipsilateral
Professional Rationale
Since the deep segmental stabilizers of the cervical spine are so highly linked with ocular motions, this exercise uses this relationship to turn on these muscles to strengthen on a neuromuscular level. Patients may experience headaches or eye strain with these exercises therefore it is important to keep the repetitions to a minimum.
Client Rationale
The deep neck stabilizers are very highly related to your eye movements as your eyes are on your head. Anytime your eyes move in relation to the environment, your head must also move. Therefore, we can use eye motions and conscious thought to engage the deep neck stabilizers. These muscles are very hard to 'strengthen'.
Instructions
- Look to the right and 'think about' (but don't) turn your head to the right.
- Repeat to opposite side.
- Do not move your head.
- Do not overstrain.
