Professional Rationale
Baseline strengthening exercise that can be used in the early stages of rehabilitation to help to clear edema and engage the muscles groups. It is also very commonly used in the hospital setting right after surgery to ensure circulation during periods of inactivity or bedrest (ankle pumps).

Client Rationale
This is an exercise to help you strengthen the muscles on the back of your calf (gastrocnemius, soleus, toe flexors). It also helps to gain plantarflexion range of motion in your ankle.



Instructions
  • Point foot downwards.
  • Return slowly.
  • Do not move your knee or your hip.
