This is a higher level stabilization exercise for those with chronic degenerative changes or a chronic instability.

Client Rationale
This is a cervical stabilization exercise that helps to strengthen the front muscles of the neck while the head is moving - ie. it strengthens the dynamic stabilizers.



Instructions
  • Lie on your back with your head unsupported over the end of the bed.
  • Turn your head halfway to one side, then slowly lower your head back towards the floor.
  • Return to start position and repeat to the other side.
  • Do not clench the teeth or tighten the jaw.
  • Do not experience any dizziness or lightheadedness.
  • Do not hold the dropped head position at all.
  • Do not allow the chin to poke forward at all or the shoulders and upper back to move.
